Entry #1 - Blogs
Hello World
Today, I would like to talk to you a little bit about blogs. You're probably asking yourself, "why am I reading a blog, about blogs?" And honestly, that's a very fair question. But stick with me, and hopefully by the end of this post, you will have a better understanding of what I think of blogs and bloggers.
I have been reading blogs before they were called blogs. In my day, we called them magazines (yes, I'm old). And while magazines are still alive and well, many of the major magazines, if not all, have adopted a web-based "blog" version of their product. It's just the times we live in, and honestly, I am all for it. No longer are the days of checking your mailbox for the latest edition of "Game Informer" magazine. Now, I can simply turn on a CPU or phone, press a few buttons or keys, and I have that very magazine at my fingertips. Instantly. On the exact same date every month. It's truly amazing. And I know you're probably thinking "it's 2023, old man, get with the times." And you're right.
So, it won't surprise you that Game Informer is one of the blogs I read and enjoy. I like the professional layout, and the casual/professional tones used when conveying their opinions or thoughts on the latest games and game industry news. Like I said, I've been reading this magazine since I was a teenager, and it's virtual version is just as good as I remember the magazine to be.
One of the types of blogs I do not like, though, are family/personal blogs. They are just not for me. I do not like the unprofessional writing styles or tones, and honestly, I am not very interested in most people's personal lives. I find it to be very boring. I'm sorry (not really), Eddy, I do not care about your trip with the "bros" to the Sand Dunes.
I find it incredibly interesting how "blogs" as we know them today, are just extensions, or evolutions of the very media forms I grew up reading, like a magazine or a newspaper. When people hear "blog", I don't think they typically think of magazines or newspapers, but maybe that's just me?
Thanks for stopping by.
